national autistic society day centre-update of an update

staff phoned social worker today to find out the result of the funding meeting last monday, she said they have agreed to fund for two full days at anglo house day centre, but she also said people who go there also have to pay a contribution ontop of funding, fine, except the lady who deals with contributions and working out how much is able to be paid,is away on annual leave until next monday, seems with every good answer have been given there is also a delay.
social worker is now writing referral to anglo house,so all that is stopping am from going there is just the finalising of funding now,but it now means have got a place there.

does anyone else here go to anglo house?

Knowsley Safari Park=autist friendly

went to a place called knowsley safari park today.
it is in Liverpool,or somewhere near there.

as it was a day out,am had been given two to one status, instead of the usual one to one [this means having two staff to self],it was only am going out of everyone who lives in this house, because of the sensory problems with others in car,the others are using it at the weekend to go to blackpool and the southport air show.
we were in a ford focus [the usual car the council gives their residential homes for hire],the staff who was driving it had borrowed a tomtom gps for the day for directions.

when we got there,it was very dark, and the rain was flooding the place, the people who worked there said there would not be as many animals running about but that didn't matter.
got to see lots of animals running free, the reindeer were headbutting each other, the bison were sniffing [or licking] each others bums and the african bongos [these are favourite animals of all, as well as cats] were lying down in the hay.
there were a lot of wallabies out to.
there was one car covered in babboons trying to rip things off it,it was their fault as they stopped when there were signs saying not to stop.

it was great having all this freedom, and from own car so no overloads from other people like in zoos.

problem was, that was about to end,as it usually happens with something so good.

we got out at the area where the gift shop, restaurant etc is,to go to the toilet, and gift shop.when we went into the toilet,a noisy large group of nursery staff were waiting nearby, and just finished on the toilet, they came in the room [why did they wait for am and staff to go in?] they brought all the kids in with them, they were all screaming, and banging everything and switching the hand dryers on.

this sent am straight into MD mode, and am was on the floor, sensory crippled [am also lose eye sight],attacking self, rocking and head banging the wall.
apparently [was told this at home later],the staff had asked the nursery staff if they could possibly wait with changing nappies until am had got out,as am very quick and was just about to come out,but they said why should they, and let the children loose in the toilet room in full force, whilst shouting and going on between themselves [the group of ladies].

they said am was in attack and MD for ages, and that the manager of the whole park came,to sort it out,he came with a key for the toilet door, and to ask the ladies to leave the toilet room as they were causing a disturbance [yeah,a rather large one],they got in,restrained am,and when came out of the meltdown, they took am to the car to lie down.

several of the safari park staff whom knew what had gone on,were in support of am and couldn't believe the rudeness from them to the staff with am,and to their unwillingness to help, they said am could use the disability toilet, never thought about that,.

whilst there, staff were watching the group of nursery ladies and how they were dealing with the children they were supposed to be looking after, one of them was coming back that way with food for them both to eat and said one of the boys they were looking after just ran into a solid wood pillar, head first and she heard a loud cracking noise, the ladies just looked at him and didn't help, and said nasty things about him, they wanted to get the name of the nursery to report the ladies, for that and for the nastiness from them in the toilets.

went into the gift shop eventually [one of favourite things in animal places] and had a look at what to buy.
had not even been able to look around a lot of the shop before THE SAME nursery group came in,screaming squeaking etc,and that was just from the nursery staff, the children were screaming to,ran out as quick as could, one staff came with am whilst other paid for the stuff had wanted.

am going to email the staff at the safari park if can find out who they were off staff to thank them for the help they did for am.

definitely recommend the park to those who have a car,it is great being able to see the animals like this rather than all behind bars like in zoos.
it's very autie friendly,in the fact are in own car, lots of beautiful animals and scenery, for any auties or aspergan autists whom find,or think might find zoos too hard to cope with, try Knowsley or Longleat [think it's the same sort of thing?]

took some photos of some of the animals, the photos [have edited them, and are saved in jpg quality through mspaint, couldn't be bothered opening GIMP to do it better as it takes far too long on this laptop] are not that great because some were took through the car window as the rules say not to open in some places, and also, the weather was storm.....am not going to blame the quality on am shaky hands that would not keep still, better to blame everything else first, have done great photos before with shaky hands.

Public transport

Judging from Manchester public transport,[specifically buses] it's not just autistics whom will have a problem with the way they are today.
there are babies children, teenagers and adults who will be on the bus playing music without earphones [what is that about?],even when used with earphones,it can still be sensory crippling,it will be their fault if they go deaf.

there are the people [babies, children, teenagers and adults] who scream, shout, sing and abuse other people on the bus, there are those who throw things at others on the bus.
there are those who sit at the back, flooding the whole bus with their cigarettes and what stagecoach likes to call "herbal cigarettes" [aka canabis rollups] smoke.
then there are the buses structures that make screeching and whining noises, this is a problem especially with ring and ride buses [ring and ride is a bus service that comes to peoples homes to get them,if they get DLA],when windows are open, they let in all the noise to.

there is also the problem with buses being full of people,it's the ultimate crippling noise from having so many sounds together-am will not get on a bus if it's busy and especially not get on a bus if there are kids, babies and teenagers on.
drivers rarely ever do anything to stop those who are playing music outloud, who are being abusive etc,it is disgusting how these bastards are allowed to treat public transport as private transport whilst everyone else puts up with it.
am have been attacked and abused on buses before when out with staff or parents,
and no other passengers or the driver say or do anything to stop it.
the music players, abusers etc should all be banned from buses but this will never happen.

dad has a friend in Dublin,Ireland who is a bus driver,he used to drive for a company that went through a bad estate, and people there walk on and not even bother paying,he never said to get off in case they had knives and could stab him [he works for bus eireann now though,he said it's a better bus company and they don't go through dangerous estates]
although am mostly get car/taxi as transport because of the sensory problems,am writing a letter about these problems to the GMPTE [manchester public transport authority] and to stagecoach and arriva because it is wrong that passengers are being made to put up with these morons.

NAS day centre-update

Social worker finally phoned staff back today about getting am a referral to the NAS day centre, found out am need more than a referral,it took ages just to find that out.
she said that she has to get funding for am,and because am in twenty four hour residential care, the people who fund the money might not want to do it,but she knows the difficulties here with "madam" make life crap, and that college turned am away for petty reasons [having done a similar ASDAN course, and just because they have joined up with the college it was took at] for all but one course,so she is putting in a request for two days every week at Anglo house, when the ss/council have the funds meeting next monday.

does anyone go to an ASD day centre/club etc?
what think of them?
is it for life or do they end it when the person gets to adulthood?
